It’s here already. Though it seems that just yesterday we were ringing in 2019, tomorrow is already Thanksgiving. To many, they see a holiday of feasts and parades and football. To business owners, with over 85% of Americans expected to purchase during holiday sales, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are seen as an opportunity. With the possibility of extra sales, businesses hope to reach their sales goals and finish the end of the year with a bang. Over the past few years, however, the holiday weekend hasn’t been seeing those radically high sales numbers. This may be due in part to stores starting their sales earlier, or running their sales longer. As consumers know that they do not have to purchase on Black Friday or Cyber Monday to attain a great deal, there is a lack of that sense of urgency that made shopping during this time so alluring. It’s important to note that though holiday weekend sales may seem stagnant, overall sales have grown by 2.5% or more yearly since 2003 (except during the housing and financial crisis which affected 2008 and 2009). In 2003, Americans spent over $400 billion and in 2018 the spend amount exceeded $700 billion.
If you are a retailer, what can you do to see improved sales this holiday season?
- Better late than never - Though the holidays are already upon us, it’s never too late to hold a pop-up or unannounced sale. Customers enjoy the thrill of the hunt and being able to score an unannounced deal can not only give them a sense of accomplishment, but it may also give them reason to brag about it. This bragging can result in their friends coming in for the same deal.
- Don’t let dates limit you - Extending your Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals throughout the holiday season gives your customers more opportunities to make purchases, and you more opportunities to bring in revenue.
- You deserve sale prices, too - If you need to replenish your stock, or you want to add merchandise to your inventory, don’t be content paying the same rates during the holiday as you do during the rest of the year. Look for wholesalers offering deals and incentives for you to purchase from them this season. For example, Bed & Brand is having a pallet sale on their most popular seller, the Bamboofield Sheet Sets. Normally selling for $15 per set, for Black Friday if you purchase a pallet of these sheet sets, you can get them for only $9.99 per set. Call 855.977.0878 to take advantage of this great offer.
With these simple ways to improve your holiday sales, you are well on your way to a Happy New Year.
